Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we are unable to offer any taster sessions until further notice.
Please contact us for details of when we have availability for a Taster Session and to confirm your place. email:firstname.lastname@example.org
Encouraging new members and opening up the opportunity to learn to paddle with us is a key objective for Southbourne Canoe Club. We welcome people of all abilities to come and join our club and we cater for the complete novice right through to the seasoned ‘expert’ paddler.
If you are considering joining our club, and would like to join us for a one-off paddle before you commit to club membership, please enquire when our next available taster session is.
You may already be a regular paddler, but just want to find out more about Southbourne Canoe Club’s facilities and to meet the other members, again you are welcome to come on a taster session to find out more about the club to see if it suits your needs.
TASTER SESSIONS are run on nominated Thursday evenings throughout the season and cost £10. We will supply a kayak and Buoyancy aid for you to use unless you prefer to bring your own equipment. Most people will start to learn to paddle in closed cockpit general purpose kayaks but we will also have available Sea Kayaks and Open Canadian Canoes to try.
You can take advantage of this offer only once, after your first, (hopefully enjoyable), session you will be required to take out full membership to paddle with the club again.
During these sessions we want to ensure that you are looked after properly and so will try to ensure that there are enough coaches and leaders on hand to help and offer guidance where needed. So we need to know you are coming please. If you can use the contact us page to drop us a line to let us know that would be great.
For the evening please can you download the Temporary membership form, fill it out and bring it with you together with your £10 payment.
Tasters must arrive at the centre by 18:00
You will also need to wear suitable clothing and footwear to wear on the water. Waterproof trousers, beach shoes and a lightweight water proof jacket are ideal. As you may get wet, bring a towel as well.
When you arrive at Hengistbury Head Outdoor Centre you will be met at the ‘signing in table’ where you will be asked for the form and payment. Please note that the parking at the Hengistbury Head centre is reserved for Hengistbury Head staff and SCC Committee only.
Please printout the Temporary Membership form below, complete the form and bring this with you on the day of your reserved taster session.
For this evening you will be part of our club, so please familiarise yourself with the club Constitution and policies regarding Child Protection, photography, parking etc.. which are available to read elsewhere on this website. Photos for the clubs website and video for coaching purposes may be taken at this event. If this is not appropriate for you please do not participate.
