LEADERSHIP SKILLS
These brief notes cover 3 of the several hazards in our area. These notes should be read in conjunction with the Club’s Risk Assessments where full information is provided.
THE LOOP The leader takes responsibility for the group and should have successfully taken the Club Leadership Skills Course. If no leader is available, this would become a peer paddle and would cease to be a Club activity.
THE RUN Only a qualified BCU 3* leader who has successfully taken the Club Leadership Skills Course can take a group through the Run. The group should be of 2* standard or have completed an introductory to sea kayaking course. Under 18’s should be accompanied by a minimum 4* sea paddler.. If no leader is available, this would become a peer paddle and would cease to be a Club activity.
IFORD WEIR Only a qualified BCU 3* leader who has successfully taken the Club Leadership Skills Course can take a group on the weir. The group should be of 2* standard. Under 18’s should be accompanied by a minimum 4* leader. If no leader is available, this would become a peer paddle and would cease to be a Club activity
GENERAL In the event of a serious incident, the highest qualified person would take over. This applies to any club activity.
