Safety
The safety of our
members and all of those people involved in, or affected
by, the activities of our club is of paramount importance.
Please heed the advice on this page and keep safety in
mind at all times.
Child Protection
Southbourne Canoe
Club (SCC) is currently developing a child protection
policy. This can be found in the navigation menu
on the left under the title 'Child Protection'.
Car Park (and
cars)
The car park
(and roads leading to the club) can becomes a
busy particularly at the start of the session. Please take care when
crossing the car park and do not allow children to roam
unsupervised. Likewise please take care not to
damage any vehicles parked in the car park when moving
large (and unwieldy) kayaks, canoes and equipment.
Swimming
Under
normal circumstances swimming is not permitted as the
waters around the club house are dangerous. Powered
craft are using the harbour at all times
of the day. Swimming is only permitted under the supervision
of club coaching staff (usually in conjunction with
the teaching of kayak rescue and rolling techniques).
Any persons blatantly abusing this rule may be asked
not to attend the club in future and their membership
may be suspended.
Paddling
If done correctly paddling is a very enjoyable and safe sport, but as with anything there are always risks. It is normal
club policy for all beginners (up to BCU 2 star paddlers)
to be under the supervision of club coaching staff when
on the water. Exceptions to this rule may be made by
the senior coach in attendance and will be advised on
the day. All members and non-members must not
access the water without first gaining permission of
the senior coach in attendance. Everyone has a reposiblitiy when padlling to ensure there equipment is full functional and well fitted. If you are unsure about a piece of equipment whether is be the club's or your own please ask.Any persons blatantly
abusing these rules may be asked not to attend the club
in future and their membership may be suspended.
